But the lies didn’t stop there. He spread word that I was sleeping with wealthy men for money while traveling — that the money I gave to the poor actually came from that. He told everyone this story. Things spiraled completely out of control. My family cut me off. A colleague, having heard the rumor, actually propositioned me for money.”

“I wanted to disappear from shame,” Camille said, her voice trembling. Then she began to cry.

I held her. For five minutes, we simply held each other in silence. The other girls joined in too, wrapping their arms around her in support.

“We’d lost touch for a while around that time — you were going through your own hard days, Soline. During that same period, in my attic apartment, I did something reckless,” Camille said, and fell quiet.

That night, before sleep, I was in such a dark place that I kept praying to God/Allah, crying. With one last thread of hope, I held onto those words: *Help me, Abdul-Qadir Gilani!*

That night, I dreamed of an old man. He told me: ‘Be patient, my daughter. These days will pass. Even the deaths of those who slandered you will become a lesson to others. This trial exists to lead you toward the truth. There is always some good hidden in hardship.’

The next night, I called out the same way as I lay down, and again someone came to me. ‘Be patient, my daughter. Deliverance is near,’ he said.

Then in my dream I saw that same woman again — it felt so real. I was crying in my bed, and she wiped the tears from my face. She was strikingly beautiful, dressed in ancient Middle Eastern clothing. ‘Don’t be sad, this will pass. I faced these same false accusations too. God/Allah stands with those who are patient,’ she said.”

“You told me who she was,” Camille said. “Rabia al-Adawiyya.”

“And then what happened?” I asked.

“Soline, for years — even back in university — you told me endlessly about Ali. Then, when you went through that terrible ordeal, you told me how he helped and saved you again. I’d never even met Ali, yet through you, he became my hero, my guide.

A few days after those dreams, while we were talking, you mentioned Ali again — the advice he’d given you, how he’d helped you. I applied what I’d learned from you to my own life, and I pulled myself back together.

But then something interesting happened. My ex-fiancé’s true colors came out.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“It turned out he was far more of a womanizer than anyone knew — he’d even slept with his own cousin. One night, he was found dead in a hotel room with an escort, near dawn. He’d been abusing performance-enhancement pills and suffered a heart attack from overexertion. Our families all knew each other, so word spread instantly. Everyone learned the truth all at once. Even his death was disgraceful. My family — everyone — apologized to me. It happened exactly the way the old man in my dream said it would.

But my heart had already broken once. Like a shattered cup that can never be whole again, that wound toward them never fully healed.”

“What happened after that?” I asked Camille.

“After that, both the two people I saw in my dreams and the way you kept telling me about Ali’s kindness toward you — they guided me. I grew stronger and came through it. But until about two months ago, I was still in a terrible place. It’s all still fresh,” Camille said.

She looked out at the sea for a while. Then she turned to Ali. “Could we talk privately, just for a bit?” she asked, requesting our permission.

She and Ali talked for about an hour. Then, suddenly, Camille embraced Ali tightly and began to cry. Ali held her too.

I was stunned by the scene — because of his faith, Ali never had physical contact with any woman outside his own family; it was only ever my mother and me. He saw my mother as his own, and he saw me as his sister.

Their conversation ended, and they came back to join us. Camille was smiling now.

You chose purity. You tried to live according to what you believed. Your ex-fiancé, though, behaved like a rabid dog — and a rabid dog’s end is death. He met the end he earned.

Unfortunately, we all sometimes slander someone in our daily lives, knowingly or unknowingly, in small ways or large. And then we fall ill, or trouble finds our work, or our relationships. In short, divine justice is always at work — we simply don’t notice it. We treat what happens to us as ordinary life, we don’t take it seriously. But this is divine justice.

Camille, he lost. You suffered — but you won. Slander is like a boomerang: it strikes you first, and then it returns to the one who threw it. In the end, false accusations harm the accuser most of all.

Now smile — look, your friends are here with you. God/Allah loves you — that’s why He avenged you,” Ali said.

“Ali, I’m still in disbelief that a person could slander someone this much,” Camille said. “And just like it was foretold in my dream, his death really did become a lesson to others. I’m still stunned.”

“When a person stops nourishing their soul, the soul weakens, and the ego grows unchecked. And once someone gives in to cruelty, they lose everything. With every lie, every false accusation, the soul and the heart grow darker. After that, a person has no moral compass left — they commit every wrongdoing with pleasure.

Just look at the world, Camille. Isn’t it everywhere — people slandering one another? To elevate themselves, or for their own gain. Everyone should ask themselves this: have I ever falsely accused someone — and did divine justice answer that with a consequence of my own?“
