Chased and Falling in a Dream: Nicole’s Golden Key Story
Chased and Falling in a Dream: What Nicole Experienced
“I was being chased by someone in my dream. Then I fell from a great height. It was like a swamp, I was drowning. That’s when you reached out your hand and pulled me out.”
I am Soline, also known as the Bride of Shadows. This is the dream of my friend Nicole, an American living in Dubai. She had come to visit me in Izmir fifteen days earlier.
After breakfast, Nicole went excitedly to find Ali. She started talking to him.
“Ali, I looked up dream dictionaries online. But they all had the same explanations, irrelevant and nonsensical interpretations. For example:
For being chased, it says ‘you’re running from something.’ For falling from a height, ‘loss of control, an insecure period, a stressful time.’ For drowning, ‘avoiding responsibility, being overwhelmed under stress, taking on too much.’ For a golden key, ‘success, abundance, opening the door of destiny.’ For a locked door, ‘obstacles.’ For a faceless man, ‘indecision, parts of yourself you’ve rejected,’ it says.
Then I looked at paid dream interpretation sites, same thing there. All of it felt inadequate. Some were just word-based, some were stuck purely on psychology. Some even had AI-generated interpretations.”
“If I tell you my dream, will you interpret it?” Nicole asked Ali. Ali nodded silently in agreement.
Then, “Nicole, tell me first what you felt when you woke up from the dream. Fear, peace, happiness — what state was your soul in?” Ali asked.
“Ali, there was no fear at all. It felt so strange, but for the first time I woke up peaceful. It was fascinating, I was happy when I woke up,” Nicole said.
“Okay, go ahead and tell it,” said Ali.
Chased and Falling in a Dream: Hands in the Darkness and the Escape
“I was in a dark place in my dream. There were shadows, so many hands touching me. I suddenly felt disturbed, disgusted by the hands. I started running. I came out into a bright hallway.
Someone kept chasing me, and I kept running from them without stopping. I didn’t know who was chasing me, but I sensed it was the same person who had put me into that darkness.
I managed to run for a while. Then suddenly I found myself in a vast, endless field.”
Chased and Falling in a Dream: Sinking Into the Swamp and Being Saved
“Suddenly the ground seemed to disappear. I started falling from a great height, but it was a strange kind of falling.
Then suddenly I found myself in what felt like a swamp, in strange water. The more I struggled, the more I sank. Just as I was about to drown, you caught my hand and pulled me out. I hugged you, but strangely, I wasn’t afraid.
Then you held my hand and took me somewhere. There was a door there, but it was locked.
Suddenly a key appeared from inside my chest. But it was so strange, Ali, it just appeared on my body out of nowhere. It was a distinctly golden-colored key, and I opened the door with it.
Behind the door was someone whose face I couldn’t see. ‘Come to me,’ he said. I went inside, but you didn’t come. I tried to pull you in by the hand, but you wouldn’t come.
“I’m not allowed. From now on, he’ll be with you, my role ends here,” you said, Ali. You turned and walked away. I kept saying ‘come back,’ but you disappeared. Then I woke up.
Most importantly, why did I see you in my dream? Who was that faceless person? I didn’t understand it, Ali.”
“That’s everything,” Nicole said. “There are parts I can’t remember clearly, unclear pieces too.”
—
Ali called out to me: “Soline, could you bring some tea, and Turkish coffee for Nicole?”
“Are you going to read my coffee grounds to interpret my dream?” Nicole asked.
“Ah Nicole, ah Ali, you took the bait, you fell right into it 😂”
“No, of course not,” Ali said. “Reading coffee grounds, having it read, is dangerous. We’d be inviting unseen entities by reading the grounds, and then they become trouble for one of you. It’s just that you don’t like tea, you’re American after all, you like coffee,” he said, laughing.
The rest of us laughed too, Ali had pulled his little trick again.
“Nicole sweetheart, don’t mind Ali, he likes to tease people like this,” I said smiling.
As Ali sipped his tea, he told Nicole, “go ahead, drink your coffee comfortably.” His eyes followed Nicole the whole time, the way she sipped her coffee, the movement of her lips, her eyebrows, her posture, every gesture. I had long since memorized Ali’s way of reading people.
Nicole smiled with the corner of her lips as she sipped her coffee.
Ali broke his silence, but playfully: “Oh, I see a bird in the coffee cup, chirping away,” Ali said.
Nicole excitedly picked up the cup, looking into it, “where, where,” she said.
When we all started laughing again, Nicole realized Ali was joking. “Why are you teasing me,” Nicole said to Ali.
“I know you’re curious about coffee fortune-telling, I just wanted to teach you a little lesson. Stay away from coffee grounds,” Ali said.
“Well, I got used to coffee readings a lot in Dubai, that’s why,” Nicole said.(Nicole was a regular at the Sultan's Lounge in Dubai. She used to have her coffee fortune told while overlooking the Palm Jumeirah.)
“Anyway, let’s go back to your dream. You were smiling a moment ago, isn’t smiling wonderful? Especially when you don’t even know why you’re smiling, and all you feel is peace and happiness, isn’t that right?” he said to Nicole.
Nicole was surprised at how closely Ali had been watching her, and nodded, smiling.
Classic Ali. He observes the person in front of him without ever letting it show, then identifies what they need, then heals their wounds — just as he did for me, for Liv, and for Camille.
Nicole couldn’t wait any longer, impatiently saying, “come on Ali, interpret my dream already, and no psychological interpretation.”
“A dream can’t be reduced to psychology alone,” Ali said.
He looked into Nicole’s eyes for a while, quietly. Then he began speaking again.

Chased and Falling in a Dream: The Golden Key From Her Heart
“What we call a dream is a journey of the soul. Sometimes daily problems, past memories affect the soul, sometimes the soul travels while we sleep, sometimes it receives information about our future. In the end, all of this is called a dream. Sometimes we remember, sometimes partially, sometimes not at all.
Psychology doesn’t concern me, I will explain the spiritual side of your dream,” Ali said.
Nicole watched Ali’s mouth eagerly, waiting for what he would say next.
“Let’s begin, may God grant your dream a good meaning,” Ali said, and started his interpretation.
“There are traces of the past here, that’s true. That’s the person from your past who put you into darkness, a wrong done to you. But those shadows and the hands touching you, that’s your own choice — meaning, you blaming and punishing yourself.
The bright hallway is your effort to free yourself from that darkness, from the weight of the past. Stop blaming yourself now.
Reaching the empty field is your desire to make a fresh start now.
Falling from a height is your desire to leave behind those past events and the urge to punish yourself, to open a new page, but you don’t know your way yet,” Ali said.
He took a few sips of his tea and waited.
“Nicole, when you were sinking in the water, the swamp, about to drown, what did you feel?” Ali asked.
“It was so strange, I wasn’t afraid but I had given up. I didn’t care about drowning or what would happen to me. It felt like I was already dead. I can’t fully explain it, but in short, I had given up on everything.”
“Falling into that swamp-like ground and nearly drowning is about the indecision, not knowing what you were doing. That’s why you made mistakes and fell into the swamp again — meaning, wrong decisions once more.
Me holding your hand and pulling you out of the water and swamp represents my support, or someone else’s support,” he said.
“Then heading toward that locked door is guidance being given to you, because you still don’t know what to do. The locked door means a new world, a new life, new beginnings.
The key coming from your heart, though, is something else entirely,” Ali said.
“What does that mean, Ali?” Nicole asked.
“Until now, you’ve left your soul hungry. Your soul has been trapped and weakened inside your body. Now you need to strengthen your soul — once it grows stronger, the locked doors will open, meaning a new life.
That golden key you saw is the strong state of your soul. It’s the one that will solve everything. If you succeed, all doors will open.
Chased and Falling in a Dream: The Locked Door and the Faceless Man
When that locked door opens, the faceless person is quite the surprise… Are you ready for this, Nicole?”
“Come on, tell me Ali, I’m dying of curiosity,” Nicole said.
Ali said with a smile: “That person is your destiny, the one you’ll marry. The one who will offer you a new world. But his soul is very strong, and yours is weak, you’ve never nourished it, you’re not in a position to deserve him right now.
If you manage to do this, your dream will come true. In short, everything depends on your effort.
Destiny exists, but within destiny there’s also a person’s effort — destiny falls in love with effort.
This is my personal interpretation, but only God/Allah knows the truth.”
“Girl, did you secretly get yourself a fiancé without telling us? When’s the wedding?” Nicole teased Camille.
But Nicole had drifted into deep thought, she hadn’t even heard Camille. Her face was smiling, she was happy.
Suddenly Nicole asked Ali: “But why are you in my dream, and why don’t you go through the door yourself?”
Ali said calmly: “That person in the dream, maybe it’s me, maybe someone else, I can’t know. But whoever it is, they’ll help gather your soul, help you grow stronger. Then, once you’re ready, they’ll help you fly like a bird. In short, that person is just someone who will be part of your life for a certain period, to help you build a new life. Maybe even the one who will help you marry another man,” he said.
Nicole insisted, “it’s you, I remember your face.”
“Faces in dreams are symbolic, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be me,” Ali said.
A long silence followed.

Chased and Falling in a Dream Why It Felt So Real: Nicole’s Confession
“Nicole, has there been a change in your life recently, or have you been praying?” Ali asked.
“Yes, quite a lot has changed. Since coming to Izmir and staying at Soline’s place, so much has changed. You, Soline, Liv, Camille, all of you, your conversations have deeply affected my outlook on life. Money, entertainment and such weren’t discussed, it was always about the beautiful things in life, things that light up the soul. I’ve been praying a lot these past few days. But what does that have to do with my dream?” Nicole asked.
“It has everything to do with it. A person consists of three parts:
– Body
– Soul
– Ego (nafs)
You eat every day, you drink water, you meet your body’s need for nourishment. You have fun, you indulge your ego. You go out drinking at bars, your ego gets even more spoiled.
So why have you left your soul hungry? Every time you go to a bar, go out drinking, your soul suffers, because while the soul is crushed inside the body, the ego takes control.
Your soul has recently been nourished, made happy, by the conversations you’ve heard here. With one last hope, it has guided you toward praying to God/Allah.
And what emerged from that is this dream,” Ali said.
“Because in the dream, in the spiritual dimension, it is the soul that has a voice. The body is useless. The ego is like a cowardly rat, it only gets in the way, sometimes it even becomes an accomplice to wrongdoing. A strong soul means a dream full of secrets!!!”
Nicole couldn’t find anything to say, she fell silent, because she knew Ali was right. But her face was still smiling with happiness.
As Ali watched Nicole’s happy state, he dropped the bomb.
“Nicole, how old were you when you were abused? Who abused you?”
We were all shocked. How did Ali know this?
Nicole froze completely. Her voice trembling, she said “how do you know this, I never told anyone.”
Ali said calmly, “it’s written in your eyes.”
Nicole, swallowing hard:
“Six years old… it was my stepfather.”( Childhood Sexual Abuse: Is Anyone Listening? )
