Signs of Negative Energy: Soline Against the Shadows

This entry is part 2 of 11 in the series soline:Bride of Shadows(EN)

That evening, the signs of negative energy were everywhere in the house. My cat suddenly grew restless, staring uneasily down the hallway. Then I caught that foul smell — heavy, like a rotting carcass. Something tight and unexplainable settled inside me. I know now that all of it was the warning sign that the shadow entities were closing in.

Talking to shadow entities — was that even possible? Yes, I was seeing it happen with my own eyes, and so was my mother.

My mother and I watched Ali in disbelief. He wasn’t just talking to them — it was more like they were threatening each other.

“You got that power from God. And God gave me the faith in my heart. Come on, let’s see who wins: you against me, or me against you?”

Those were Ali’s words…

The more he spoke, the more astonished I became. These were direct challenges to those demonic shadow entities. I was trembling with fear. Forget threatening them — just seeing them was enough to terrify me.

Their leader was an old, hideous woman. About three meters tall. She reeked, like an animal carcass.

I’m Soline. Also known as the Bride of Shadows. A 25-year-old archaeologist. Originally of French descent. A century ago, my family settled in İzmir, Turkey. I live with my mother, Beatrice, a well-known antiques expert.

What’s written here are notes from my own journals…

Signs of Negative Energy: First Warnings

The first hours of it all. The sun had set about two hours earlier.

My cat reacted first. Then I caught that foul smell. The stench of a dead animal… [a strange unease]

“Ali, they’re coming. They’re coming back. I’m so scared. I can feel their energy. That smell is here again. Please help, don’t let them take me!” I said.

“Don’t be afraid, I’m here. But don’t step out of the living room, no matter what,” Ali said.

They came… finally, they came. Yesterday’s 230-year-old young male shadow entity. A hideous middle-aged female entity. And a middle-aged male entity as well.

Before, I only ever saw them as shadows. But today, I saw their physical forms. The woman had a serpent-like face, her body strange — neither snake nor anything else I could name.

The middle-aged male resembled a serpent too, but with horns. Something between a snake and a lizard.

The young one had new horn-tips just starting to emerge from the top of its head.

All three of them had terrifying eyes.

Facing the Shadow Entities

“Well, well, welcome. If you’d let me know in advance, I would’ve rolled out the red carpet. Tea or coffee?” Ali said, mockingly.

Silence. No reaction at all. They stood there like statues.

“Ali, please, don’t mock them. You’ll only make them angrier,” I said.

My mother was trembling with fear, clutching her Bible and the cross around her neck.

Ali came over to us. “Don’t be afraid, just watch,” he said.

“Ali, son, these are real, aren’t they? I can see them too, right now. Are these demons?” my mother asked.

“It’s a bit complicated, Mother Beatrice. These are dark entities that serve the devil. They’re just worthless, dishonorable creatures,” Ali said.

My mother kept reading her Bible.

The room was silent, everyone watching everyone else. Finally, the female entity spoke.

“Reading that Bible won’t stop us,” she said, laughing.

“Why are you waiting in that hallway? Why don’t you come inside? Or can’t you?” Ali said, mockingly.

“This isn’t your business — step aside. We came for that girl. She belongs to us,” the female shadow entity said.

The hair on my arms stood on end. It was the first time I’d heard their voices — a terrifying sound, unlike any human voice.

And on top of that, she was saying she wanted to take me. How could I possibly belong to them?

“Come on now! Did you give birth to her? Show me the birth certificate. How exactly does she belong to you?” Ali said to the female shadow entity.

“She invited us herself. One of our males took a liking to her — we’re going to take her,” the female entity said.

“I don’t belong to you, I don’t want this. Ali, please, don’t ever hand me over to them!!!” I screamed in terror.

I was practically climbing to the top of the couch from fear, trembling.

“Soline, don’t be afraid, stay calm. Stay strong, stay resolute — just don’t give up,” Ali told me.

“Well, go on then — come and take her. Why can’t you come into the living room? If she belongs to you, if you have the power, come and take her,” Ali said.

“You’ve built a protection shield. You know prayer keeps us out. Fine, we’ll wait here,” the female shadow entity said.

Ali laughed. “Wait there, then. The hunter can become the hunted. What happens if I hunt you instead?” he said.

Silence again. Not a sound, not a movement, no reaction at all.

There was brewed tea in the kitchen, still warm.

“Soline, Mother Beatrice, I’m going to get some tea from the kitchen — should I bring some for you too? I’ll grab biscuits as well,” Ali said.

My mother and I stared at him, stunned.

“Ali, son, is this really the time for tea, with these entities here? Besides, they’re right there in the hallway, you can’t get past them,” my mother said.

“Don’t worry, relax,” Ali said.

Ali walked toward the hallway. Approaching the female entity:

“You’d really love to have a child with me, wouldn’t you?” Ali said.

The female entity answered with a repulsive smile.

When do we start!!!”

Ali laughed. “You’ll be waiting a long time,” he said. Then he added:

“Actually, I’m curious — how many children do you have?”

“As many as I need from my own kind. But from you humans, the hybrids I’ve made number in the thousands,” the female entity said.

Whoa!!! What was this shadow entity even saying? Thousands of hybrid children!!!

Ali then walked right through the middle of the three entities toward the kitchen. He came back with tea and biscuits.

Passing through the hallway again, he turned to them:

“See, you can’t get into the living room, but I can walk right up to you,” he said.

He brought the tea and biscuits, served us.

Ali’s absurd level of confidence was somehow reassuring to us too.

Suddenly Ali called out to us:

“Girls, let’s watch a bit of a movie while we’ve got tea. Look, there’s a horror movie playing in the hallway — except it’s really a comedy. Starring three idiot entities — one woman, two men. Not a shred of talent between them,” Ali said, laughing.

My mother and I had calmed down, we were even laughing now. But the entities were losing it over these insults.

Ali went up to the female entity:

“That young one nearly got away from me yesterday. But now he’s caught in a trap. Your turn’s coming too,” Ali said.

“What exactly makes you so confident? You’re just a solid-flesh son of Adam, in the end. We’re made of gas — we can take any form. We can settle inside your bodies, circulate in your blood. Who are you to be this confident?” the female shadow entity said to Ali.

Ali laughed. “Only in God!!! The One who gave you that power is the same God who gave me this faith. Go on, do your worst. You’re not the first of your kind I’ve encountered — I’ve dealt with plenty like you, and even stronger. Including ones outside your own race. Who exactly are you to be threatening me? You’re just a pathetic thing that preys on men while they sleep. While men think they’re dreaming, you’re breeding hybrid children off them. You’re nothing but a stupid creature serving the devil,” Ali said.

The female shadow entity grew even more enraged at his words.

They tried to leave. But they couldn’t move, as if they’d hit a wall.

“What, trying to leave? I never gave you permission. I bound that young shadow entity with prayer while I passed by the kitchen — he can’t go anywhere, he’s trapped. He still hasn’t answered for what he did to Soline,” Ali said.

The female shadow entity nearly went mad. Objects flew through the air in the hallway, thrown without anyone touching them.

“That young one is our chief’s son. Give him back,” she said.

“Stop barking like a rabid dog. Get as angry as you want. Go call your chief, then. If he can take him back himself, let him,” Ali said.

Bargaining With the Tribal Chief

Less than a minute later, the female entity returned with a large group. Among them was someone of massive, imposing stature.

Not quite a snake, not quite a lizard — a strange, scaled creature.

Beside them was a weak entity, chained by the neck. Pointed ears, humanlike. About 1.4 meters tall — a worn, battered woman-shaped entity.

The house suddenly reeked like a sewer. It was unbearable, my stomach turned.

“Ali, what is this smell?” I asked.

The smell of pure evil,” Ali said.

“Let go of my son, son of Adam,” their chief said.

“Why would I let him go? The hunter can become the hunted. He’ll answer for the evil he’s done — he’s my prisoner now,” Ali said.

“You’re brave. I know exactly who you are, I know your ancestors too. You’re strong, but one day you’ll slip up, and then you’ll fall into our hands,” the chief said.

Ali laughed at that. “Wolves don’t become prey for jackals. That day isn’t today — right now, I’m the one holding the leash,” he said.

“What do you want in exchange for my son? Gold? Diamonds? I’ll pile mountains of it here, just name it,” the chief said.

Ali just laughed. Then he paused for a moment, thinking.

The Story Behind the Negative Energy: The Captive Jinn Woman

Then the captive jinn woman caught my attention. She leaned in, wanting to say something. Then she called out to me.

“Soline, come here. This jinn woman is speaking a different language, I can’t understand her,” Ali said.

I went over to them. Ali suddenly warned me: “Don’t step into the hallway.”

She was about 1.4 to 1.5 meters tall, with a yellowish tone. She didn’t smell bad, not like the dead-animal stench at all. But there was a strange chain-collar around her neck made of some odd material — it was clear she’d been through terrible suffering.

The language she spoke was Aramaic.

“Soline, ask her which tribe, which region, which faith she’s from — and what she’s doing with them,” Ali said.

I began asking in Aramaic, and she answered. But it wasn’t modern Aramaic — it was ancient Aramaic. Still, we understood each other.

It was almost comical — talking to a nonhuman entity, and a jinn at that. I’d always imagined jinn like the one from Aladdin’s lamp. Turns out, nothing like that at all.

I got her answers.

“Ali, this jinn belongs to a Christian tribe from the Lebanon region. She was out wandering the countryside with her brother when they were captured — they killed her brother, and she was taken prisoner. It just happened recently,” I told Ali.

“Chief of the shadow entities, why did you take her captive?” Ali asked.

The chief grinned wickedly. “We make hybrid children from her kind too,” he said.

The captive jinn woman’s condition was heartbreaking, and I felt terrible for her.

“Ali, please, save her,” I said.

Ali nodded in agreement. Turning to the chief:

“I’ll release your son — in exchange, I want this captive jinn woman. But that young shadow entity will never come near Soline again. If he breaks that promise, I’ll destroy him this time — not even his ashes will be found,” Ali said.

They had no choice but to accept. They undid the chain and set her free.

“Son of Adam, everyone else asks us for gold and diamonds — you didn’t. Instead, you’re saving this jinn woman. Why would you do that?” the chief asked Ali.

“If I’d asked you for gold or diamonds, I’d have fallen into your trap in this exchange — that’s exactly what you wanted. But I chose mercy instead. Saving this jinn woman was an act of mercy, of kindness. God’s mercy makes me stronger against you. Do you think I’m foolish enough to fall into your trap?” Ali said.

The exchange took place. All of them vanished at once.

The jinn woman suddenly spoke to Ali, in Turkish:

“O Muslim, thank you, you saved me. But how did you know I was a Christian jinn?” she asked.

“From the color of your energy. You couldn’t speak our language, remember,” Ali told her.

“I’m Christian. I was afraid because you’re Muslim. I’ll repay this kindness one day. My name is (x). Whenever you call my name, I’ll come to help you,” she said.

“I’m not sending you off alone. Your father, your tribal chief — who’s there to help you? Let’s call them, have them come get you,” Ali said.

The jinn woman said, “My father’s name is (xy). Call out these words… and he’ll understand, he’ll come.”

Ali did as she instructed. Within a few minutes, someone arrived — but honestly, it was an army.

All of them carrying strange weapons, odd blades… hard to even describe.

They looked at Ali with fury. Then their leader began to speak.

“O Muslim son of Adam, who are you? Why is my daughter your prisoner?” he demanded.

“Calm down. Your daughter was a prisoner of those demonic shadow entities. I had taken their chief’s son captive, and I traded him to free your daughter,” Ali said.

The jinn leader calmed down, a flicker of embarrassment crossing his face. He undid the chain of pure energy binding his daughter. Then, looking at Ali:

“O Muslim, you saved my daughter. Whenever you need me, I’ll come to your aid — I’m in your debt. Repeat my name with those words, and I’ll come to help,” he said.

Then, all at once, they vanished.

My mother and I finally relaxed. There wasn’t a single entity left anywhere. But I kept looking into Ali’s eyes, waiting for an explanation.

“Ali, we’ll talk about all of this later,” he said.

My mother suddenly asked, “Can I go to the kitchen now? I need to cook something.”

Ali and I both burst out laughing at her question.

Ali told my mother, “Walk around the house freely, don’t be afraid.”

My eyes were closing from exhaustion. It was time for a deep sleep.

Esra’s Secret

I woke to the sound of seagulls in the morning. I hadn’t slept this peacefully in a long time.

Ali was sitting in the garden, drinking tea.

That morning, I wanted to bite him, eat him up out of sheer joy. He looked so sweet to me.

I went over to him in my pajamas. He was so absorbed in watching the sea that he didn’t notice me approaching.

Suddenly, I wrapped my arms around his neck from behind and bit his cheek.

Smiling, he asked, “You good this morning?”

“Yes,” I said.

Right then, my mother called out: “Get dressed quickly, my clients are coming with an antique piece, I need to examine it.”

Before long, the doorbell rang.

A young woman and man — maybe around my age, clearly married.

I led them toward the garden. But the woman seemed frozen, locked onto Ali, just staring.

Her voice trembling, all she could manage was, “Ali abi…”

Ali turned, looked at her. “Please, who are you? I don’t recognize you,” he said.

“Ali, it’s me, Esra. I used to be an intern at your factory,” she said.

Ali finally remembered. “Esra, you’ve grown up, you’ve changed so much,” he said.

“Yes, Ali, I got married, this is my husband,” the woman said. Then, turning to her husband:

“This is the Ali abi I’ve told you all about. I told you **he saved me from those demonic shadow entities** — this is him,” she said.

Whoa, what was happening now. Just last night it was shadow entities, and now, shadow entities again. But I was genuinely curious.

We sat down, started talking. The antique was forgotten in all the conversation.

“Ali, what happened here?” I asked.

Ali began to explain.

An old story. She’d been a 15-year-old intern, thin, frail. One morning she came to work, but there was a pitch-black, dark shadow over her.

At first, I couldn’t tell what it was.

Her hair stood on end, a horrifying darkness descended over her.

We forced her into a chair, and it dragged four grown men around like they were toys.

Then I heard that voice:

“I want you!!!”
