My Boyfriend and My Best Friend Betrayed Me: Liv’s Story
“My boyfriend and my best friend betrayed me, Soline. And I had trusted them so much.
I was supposed to fly to Egypt. The flight got cancelled. So I went home.
But there were sounds coming from the house. Someone was having sex — in my own bedroom.
What I saw destroyed me.
My boyfriend and my best friend were naked in that bed. In that moment, my whole world collapsed.
I would have rather died.“
Those were Liv’s words.
I’m Soline. The name Ali gave me — bride of shadows.
This is the story of my Belgian friend Liv’s betrayal.
The weight of that night was still on us. Dark-eyed children…
For days, my mother hadn’t been able to carry what she’d been through. She had given herself over to sleep.
Liv had gone quiet, sunk into a deep silence, trying to hide her tears.
“Liv, what’s going on with you?” I asked.
“I was betrayed, Soline! Betrayed! I’d rather have died,” Liv said suddenly.
That sentence shook me.
“Wait, Liv, what do you mean, died? Tell me — what betrayal? What happened to you?” I asked.
“Soline, I trusted them both so much,” Liv said, repeating herself.
“We were talking about marriage — me and the man I loved. The other one was my childhood friend, my closest friend,” Liv said.
Ali didn’t say a word. He just listened.
“Liv, sweetheart — didn’t you suspect anything? Didn’t you notice anything at all?” I asked.
“Actually, there was a lot… Once I caught a woman’s perfume on him. Another time, a woman’s hair on his jacket.
Every time, he had an excuse. He said the perfume and the hair belonged to my closest friend — the same woman.
Because the three of us used to hang out at cafés together sometimes. He said it must have gotten on him from being close to her.
And like an idiot, I believed it,” she said.
Ali just kept listening, still not stepping in.
“Ali, you’re not saying anything. Why aren’t you helping? You’re not saying a word,” I said.
“How would I step in. There’s a man out there with no character, who betrayed someone. And I’m a man too.
If I say anything, you two will jump on me — ‘all men are the same.’
Better to stay quiet — or I’ll end up getting hit,” he said, smiling.
Liv smiled at that, even though she’d been crying just moments before.
My mother suddenly woke up. She called out to us.
“Who’s going to beat up my son, tell me. Have the two of you teamed up to beat up my son?” she said.
Liv and I burst out laughing. But I was happy — my mother was finally coming back to herself.
“Mom, I’m your actual daughter. You keep calling Ali ‘son’ and taking his side,” I complained, half-joking.
Ali didn’t smile at my mother’s joke. He just watched her.
“Beatrice, how are you feeling? Are you doing better now?” Ali asked her.
“Don’t worry, son, I’m fine. No shadow entities for days now, no dark-eyed children… Before that it was Soline being in the hospital — I just couldn’t carry it all at once. But I’m fine now,” my mother said.
Then she turned to Liv and me.
“Have my lazy girls made breakfast yet?” she asked.
“Oh, Mom, Ali’s already prepared everything. Didn’t leave us a thing to do, tea’s ready too,” I said.
My mother looked at Liv for a moment, then called her over.
“Oh, my beautiful girl. My angel Liv. I’m your mother too, you know. Sometimes I get a little sharp, like a mother does — don’t take it to heart,” she said.
Liv hugged my mother so tightly. Then she answered her.
“You’re like a real mother to me. I could never be hurt by you,” Liv said.
Liv’s story was left unfinished. “We’ll pick it back up after breakfast,” I thought.
—
We’re in the garden. Ali is watching the shore, the sea completely calm today. “What if I sneak up and scare him,” I thought.
“Liv, let’s scare Ali,” I said, edging up from behind.
Liv laughed.
“Are you crazy, how are we going to scare Ali. That man doesn’t even flinch at shadow entities,” she said.
I didn’t care. I crept up behind him quietly, a twig in my hand, planning to brush it against his leg like a snake.
Caught red-handed. He spun around instantly and grabbed me around the waist.
He carried me through the air like a handbag, arm around my waist.
There was a fountain in the garden. He turned it on.
“You’re clearly still not awake,” he said, holding my head under the water.
I was soaked. My mother and Liv were laughing at the sight of me.
I was shaking with anger but couldn’t say a word — I’d brought it on myself.
“How did you even notice me?” I asked.
“You came up from behind. It’s still morning, the sun’s coming from the southeast. Your shadow fell to the west — I saw it,” he said.
I hadn’t thought of that at all. I’d assumed my shadow never fell in front of Ali, that it wouldn’t matter either way.
He came back with a towel.
“Come here, wide-awake girl,” he said.
He started drying my hair, strand by strand, meticulously.
“It’s summer heat, but wet hair causes sinus problems,” Ali said.
He’s so sweet, I can’t even stay mad. I kissed his cheek.
“Don’t get spoiled,” he said, pinching my nose.
My mother was examining antiques a customer had brought her. Liv and I could finally talk freely.
Liv went to the bathroom. Ali and I moved under the camellia, sat down on the sofas.
I sat next to Ali, rested my head on his chest. Tried to listen for his heartbeat. Couldn’t hear it.
“Ali, are you a zombie or something? I can’t hear your heartbeat,” I said, joking.
“Ha, one zombie was all we were missing — and now it’s me,” he said, laughing.
Liv came back and joined us.
“Liv, sweetheart, how are you feeling now?” Ali asked.
Liv smiled softly. “Watching you and Soline — my sadness doesn’t even cross my mind,” she said.
Ali took Liv’s hands, then had her sit next to me.
“But we want to hear you out. Your problem is our problem now too,” Ali said.
Liv was moved.
“You’re going to make me cry. No one’s ever said things like that to me before,” Liv said.
Ali knelt down at Liv’s knees, took her hands again, and started speaking.
“Liv, sweetheart, what did I tell you last night? I’m your brother. You’ll understand that better in time, didn’t I say that?
Now tell us what happened. Tell it so the sadness leaves you. Tell it so the poison doesn’t build up inside you.
Tell it so we can help you,” Ali said.
Liv’s eyes filled completely, she was struggling to hold back tears again.
But she couldn’t hold on. She threw her arms around Ali’s neck, started sobbing.
“Cry, sweetheart, cry. Let your tears carry the grief out of your heart. Tears are mercy — cry freely,” Ali said.
Liv cried, wrapped around Ali’s neck.
Her voice shaking, “I’m ashamed of crying,” she said.
“Why would you be ashamed, crying is good. It’s not just women who cry — men cry too. Only cruel people don’t cry,” Ali said.
Liv lifted her head from his shoulder, looked at Ali, and spoke.
“It’s so strange. You’re Turkish and Muslim. I’m Belgian and Christian. And yet you treat me like a sister — no one has ever cared for me like this,” Liv said.
Liv’s eyes were red from crying, her nose running like a child’s.
Ali noticed she was embarrassed. He went inside, came back with a tissue.
He wiped Liv’s nose with it, but he could see she was still embarrassed.
“Liv, my beautiful sister, don’t be ashamed. There’s nothing to be ashamed of here,” he said.
Then he took her by the hand, led her to the fountain in the garden, washed her face himself, and dried it with a towel.
Liv started to smile at his care.
“Sit down now, tell us calmly what happened,” Ali said.
Liv took a deep breath and started to talk.
Confronting a Toxic Relationship

“They were so shameless. Both my boyfriend and my closest friend. They actually stood in front of me and defended themselves.
‘You’re really overreacting. It’s not a big deal, we were together a few times. I still love you,’ my boyfriend said.
Their whole conversation was like a joke to them. They treated everything so lightly. They’d betrayed me and made me feel like a fool at the same time.
But they talked about it like it was completely normal, and told me *I* was overreacting,” Liv said.
I said “ohh” in shock at what Liv was telling me.
“Yes, Soline, literally ‘ohh.’ I couldn’t process what I was hearing. But the worst part came after,” Liv said.
Liv went quiet, wrapped her arms around herself. Looking at the sea, silently crying. The silence went on for a while.
Then… then she said something that left our mouths hanging open.
“I spat in both their faces. ‘You worthless piece of trash, we were about to get married,’ I said to my boyfriend.
Then I turned to the girl — my closest friend. ‘And you! You were supposed to be my bridesmaid,’ I said.
It was like talking to a wall. They weren’t ashamed of anything I said, they were completely comfortable.
My closest friend answered, ‘So what, you’ll marry again. Who’s stopping you?’ she said.
Then she said something disgusting,” Liv said.
She went completely silent, this time with her head hanging down, holding it in her hands.
“Liv, sweetheart, what did that awful girl say? Why did you go quiet?” I asked.
Ali stood up to step away.
“Girls, let me step away for a moment. This is a sensitive topic, that’s why Liv went quiet,” Ali said.
Just as he was about to leave, Liv grabbed his hand.
“Don’t go! I need you. You’re good for me, Ali. You’re my brother, I have nothing to hide from you,” Liv said.
Liv gathered her strength to speak. She started talking again.
“That girl said, ‘What’s stopping you, just get married,’ like it was a joke. Then she said something disgusting.
‘We should all just do it together, the three of us!!!’
It was like someone drove a nail into my brain hearing that. I couldn’t wrap my head around such a toxic relationship.
The trash who was going to be my husband — he actually looked happy, laughing at the offer,” Liv said.
“Oha, what kind of morals is that! What a level of shamelessness. So what did you do?” I asked her.
Getting Revenge After Betrayal
She paused for a moment, then kept going.
“I went to the kitchen and grabbed the knife. I’d decided — I was going to kill them both.
But then I thought — is it worth becoming a murderer over two pieces of trash,” Liv said.
“So then what did you do?” I asked her.
“I went back into the room. They were so comfortable they’d started sleeping together again.
They were terrified seeing me holding a knife.
I pointed the knife at both of them, said ‘Get out of the bed.’
They tried to cover themselves with the sheet. I didn’t let them.
I forced them out of the house completely naked, threatening them with the knife.
The two of them were standing in the streets of Brussels, stark naked.
I don’t know what happened to them after that,” Liv said.
I was sitting there, mouth open, in shock.
Ali’s laughter snapped me out of it.
“You’re like a tiger, my beautiful sister,” he was saying to Liv.
“That was exactly the right thing to do. Better to give them a taste of humiliation than to get your hands bloody,” Ali said.
Liv sank into silence, deep in thought.
But Ali broke that silence.
“Liv, sweetheart, how much money did that worthless man take from you?” Ali asked.
Liv looked at him strangely.
“We’d decided to buy a house since we were getting married. I gave him all my savings for it.”
“But how did you know that, Ali?” Liv asked.
“I don’t understand how Ali does this. It was a perfect hit again, exactly on target. I’ve never been able to figure out how he pulls it off,” I thought.
“Life experience, Liv. Just life experience,” Ali said.
“You know, back in university, Soline always talked about you. When we met here, I felt like I’d known you for years,” Liv said.
“So what did you do after that, Liv?” Ali asked.
“My heart was broken, my trust completely shattered. I couldn’t trust anyone anymore, I was lost for a long time,” Liv said.
She went quiet for a while, then started speaking again.
“Infidelity is disgusting. Being cheated on, betrayal — disgusting. I was destroyed. But then I came to be with you two, and everything changed,” Liv said.
Finding Comfort After Heartbreak
“What do you mean?” Ali asked.
“Being with you and Soline was so good for me. I don’t know how you did it, but I feel so calm, all my sadness is gone, I feel this much at ease,” Liv said.
“Liv, I didn’t do anything, you healed yourself,” Ali said.
“No, Ali, you’re so genuinely warm and caring, and you never take advantage of it. If it were another man, he would have taken advantage of me being this vulnerable.
But you strike such a perfect balance, and your instincts are incredible,” Liv said.
“Look, Liv, in situations like this, no one wants advice. Advice just weighs a person down — they just need someone to listen without judgment, someone to let it all out to.
Sadly, people don’t know how to listen. They say ‘I’m listening’ and then they judge,” Ali said.
“That’s exactly it, Ali. You manage to do that. You listen calmly, you don’t judge, and you show your care in the best way,” Liv said.
“Liv, you’re human, I’m human, that’s just my perspective,” Ali said.
After thinking for a moment, he continued.
“Liv, don’t give up on love. Don’t let people who don’t know the value of love scare you off. If you’re patient, wonderful days are waiting for you,” Ali said.
“I don’t know, Ali. I don’t know if I can love again, I don’t have any trust left,” Liv said.
“Look, Liv, the fault isn’t in love. The fault is in people with broken morals — the unfaithful ones, the ones who don’t know the value of love.
A person’s heart is like a garden of flowers. Love is the water, the nourishment for those flowers. Don’t be afraid to love — or you’ll dry out the flowers in your heart, and Liv’s beautiful soul will die,” Ali said.
“I just don’t get it, how is a person like you still single, you’re an amazing man, Ali,” Liv said.
Ali laughed, “This is all because of this troublemaker Soline,” he said, pointing at me.
“What do you mean, did I ever tell you not to get married, you should have gotten married,” I answered.
“You put your claws into every girl I so much as look at, they’re too scared to come near me,” Ali said, laughing.
Liv and I laughed hard at that.
“My love, I’m never giving you up to anyone, I’m not getting married either, I’m growing old next to you,” I said, pinching Ali’s cheeks.
“Little pest, stay put! I’m going to find you a husband and finally be free,” Ali said, smiling at me.
Liv was laughing at us.
“Be patient, Liv, we’re with you. Within a month you’ll forget all of this. But how did you get into this twin flame thing, tell us,” Ali said.
The Wrong Way to Heal: The Twin Flame Problem
“Oh don’t even ask, I got interested in meditation and yoga for a short while, to clear my head,” Liv said.
“Liv, you lost money to meditation too?” I said.
Liv laughed, “I went for a month, didn’t pay much. But then I got interested in the twin flame thing.
Because I was in a really dark place, I didn’t know what to do, I couldn’t find a way out,” Liv said.
Ali smiled, “Ohh, a twin flame situation was the one thing we were missing, and now that’s complete too,” he said.
“You know about that too, Ali?” I said.
“Yes I do. Liv, for the love of God tell me this — how long did your meditation training last? How long did you practice twin flame work, tell me,” he said.
Liv started to explain.
“I did meditation for two or three weeks. Then twin flame work had its own meditation too, I did that for a week,” Liv said.
Ali let out a deep “ohh, thank God/Allah.”
“But after that I started seeing these dark-eyed children a few times,” Liv said.
“Don’t worry about them, you actually got off easy,” Ali said.
“Why did you say that, Ali?” Liv asked.
Ali started explaining.
“Liv, there’s every kind of danger in twin flame work, and people go into it with no idea what they’re doing.
There’s being intimate with shadow entities in your sleep!
But worse than the shadow entities — there are women who end up pregnant,” he said.
Liv’s voice shook with fear. “What do you mean?” she said.
“Her belly swells. She goes to the hospital, the doctor calls it a phantom pregnancy.
But she’s actually really pregnant. A few months later, the entities take the child, and the swelling goes away.
But the woman thinks it was just a false pregnancy, just swelling,” Ali said.
Liv and I were in shock. But what came next was even more shocking. Ali’s last sentence was this:
“After that, these women start hearing a baby crying in their dreams, at home!!!”
What does it mean when your boyfriend cheated with your best friend?
Betrayal by both a partner and a close friend at once is often called double betrayal — it breaks two separate bonds of trust at the same time.
How do you cope with betrayal from someone you trusted?
Acknowledging the betrayal instead of minimizing it is the first step; suppressing it often makes the emotional impact worse over time.
Is it normal to want revenge after a betrayal?
Yes — anger after betrayal is a natural response, though acting on revenge impulsively can create new consequences to manage.
Why do people turn to spiritual practices after betrayal?
After betrayal, many people search for meaning or relief through meditation or spiritual guidance — but without proper knowledge, some practices carry real risks.
Can you fully recover from betrayal by a partner and a friend?
Recovery from betrayal is possible, but it takes time, support, and honest processing — there’s no fixed timeline that fits everyone.
